Walking Tour – Suffragists Rain on Wilson’s Parade, March 14th

March 14, 2018

By the 1913 inauguration of President-elect Wilson, American women were still waiting for the democratic right to vote. Explore the spectacular pre-inaugural procession that filled Pennsylvania Avenue with 5,000 marching women, colorful floats and banners, ladies on horseback, and mayhem delivered by opposing forces. Over 100 women were hospitalized but the national event reinvigorated the struggle for women’s suffrage. Tour ends at the Belmont Paul Women’s Equality National Monument.
