Adelaide Johnson Busts
The busts of Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucretia Mott and Dr. Caroline Winslow were carved by Adelaide Johnson in 1892 and were displayed in the Women’s Pavilion at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. After the fair the busts were displayed at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington DC and may have traveled to Europe.
A copy of the Susan B. Anthony bust was made in 1905 and is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
The busts were donated to the National Woman’s Party in 1922, although it is unclear whether the busts are original or are marble copies of the 1892 originals.
The Alva Belmont bust was commissioned by Alva herself in 1912. It was donated to the National Woman’s Party in 1922.
