Susan E. Carter


Susan Carter is Senior Director, Federal Relations in ExxonMobil’s Washington, D.C. government relations office, responsible for contacts and advocacy with the Executive Branch across a spectrum of energy and business issues. With over two decades in a variety of positions at ExxonMobil, she has worked in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America, where she honed extensive public affairs experience in government relations, issues management, communication, media relations, community investment, and crisis response.

Carter earned her MA in Middle East Studies from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, subsequently studying in Syria on a Fulbright grant before working as a journalist in the Middle East.  In addition to her work with the National Woman’s Party, she is also a board member of the NC State University School of Public & International Affairs advisory council and a member of the Women’s Foreign Policy Group.
